Sexual Violence:

As reported by RAINN:
Every two and a half minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted.

Reduce your risk of sexual assault:

  • Use the “buddy system” while at a party.
Watch out for one another and stick together.
  • Never leave your drink unattended; the use of date rape drugs is on the rise.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • You have the right to say “no”,
if any intimate activity makes you feel uncomfortable.

If you have been assaulted:

  • Call SARC. You do not have to go through this alone.
  • Remember you are not responsible.
  • Seek medical attention. SARC can provide a companion to meet you at Harford Memorial Hospital or Upper Chesapeake Medical Center to offer advocacy and support. http://uchs.org/hospitals/emergencycare.cfm

YOU can stop rape and sexual violence in our community:

  • If you see someone being harassed or abused, don’t look the other way.
  • Laughing at or making degrading jokes about women can be hurtful.
  • Accept that “no”, means “no”. There are no exceptions.
  • Continuing past “no” could lead to jail time.
  • Believe that ending sexual violence in our community is everyone’s responsibility.
  • Make no excuse for violence.
